Recent figures from Eurostat show that Cyprus continues to perform strongly in the labor market, recording an unemployment rate of 4.9% in September 2025. This is well below the European Union average of 6% and the Eurozone average of 6.3%, placing Cyprus among the five EU countries with the lowest unemployment rates.
The data, released on Thursday, highlights a gradual improvement over the past year. Unemployment in Cyprus has decreased from 5.1% in August 2025 to 4.9% in September, with roughly 26,000 people currently unemployed. By comparison, rates remain higher in countries like Spain (10.5%), Finland (9.8%), and Greece (8.2%).
Despite the overall low unemployment, youth unemployment in Cyprus is notably higher, standing at 17.2%, above the EU average of 14.8%.
Across the EU, unemployment levels continue to vary widely. Some countries struggle with high rates, while others have achieved very low figures: the Czech Republic reports 3%, Poland 3.2%, and Malta 3%. In this context, Cyprus maintains a competitive position within the region.
