After the two French Rafale fighter jets and the C 180 utility aircraft landed in the National Guard’s ‘Andreas Papandreou’ air base in Paphos, a warship of the French Navy has also arrived in Cyprus.

The warship, the La Fayette frigate, was caught on camera sailing westwards off the coast of Larnaca.

For the time being, it is not clear whether the French frigate will be docking at a Cyprus port, or whether it is passing through in the framework of patrols in the region.

The recent period has seen an increased presence of vessels of the French Navy at close distances from Cyprus shores.

The last two days also saw three French warplanes testing out the Paphos air base, with their presence there attributed to the defence cooperation agreement signed by France and Cyprus, and which was recently announced as being in force.
