''Lellos’ Pool'' to reopen after long-term closure

Municipal pool in Aglantzia still closed.

Press Release

The Nicosia Municipality has announced that the Nicosia Municipal Swimming Pool, commonly known as “Lellos’ Pool”, is scheduled to reopen on June 27, 2025.

Extensive renovation works were completed at the end of 2024, fully upgrading all swimming facilities. These include the municipal and children’s pools, as well as the Olympic and training pools. In addition, all outdoor areas and the electromechanical systems of both the Municipal and Olympic pools have been modernized.

As part of the upgrades, a new service building was constructed at the Olympic Pool, and a photovoltaic system was installed to enhance energy efficiency and promote environmental sustainability.

The Municipality is also expected to launch a tender soon for the renovation of the main building, which houses the café, showers, changing rooms, and office space.

For the pool’s upcoming summer season, the Municipal Council, recognizing the financial challenges faced by citizens, has decided to keep daily and seasonal ticket prices at 2021 levels. That was the last year the Nicosia Municipal Pool was in operation.

It is noted that the Municipal Swimming Pool in the Aglantzia district remains closed. The Nicosia Municipality plans to begin a full renovation toward the end of the summer. The project will take place in two phases: first, modernization of the electromechanical systems and energy upgrades; followed by renovation of the building and pool facilities.

Funding for the renovation and upgrades of both swimming pools has been secured by the Cyprus Sports Organization and the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry.
