Monday’s muddy mix: Thunder, dust, and the back-to-work blues

Midday melodrama includes thunderstorms and mountain showers.

Newsroom

Welcome back to the grind, Cyprus. If you were hoping for a sparkling clear Monday to match your fresh office energy, the atmosphere has other ideas. A weak low-pressure system is currently overseeing the island, bringing a bit of everything except stability.

We’re starting off clear, but don't get too comfortable. By lunch, clouds will begin their afternoon protest, likely resulting in isolated showers and thunderstorms, primarily inland and across the mountain peaks.

Thin dust will be hanging around the atmosphere at intervals until Tuesday. It’s just enough to make the horizon look like a vintage postcard and remind you that the Sahara is never truly far away. Winds will be a manageable southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The Mediterranean is keeping its cool, remaining calm to slightly rough.

The temperature inland is hitting a warm 28°C, just right for a lunch break in the shade. The southeast, north, and east coasts sit at 24°C, while the rest of the coastline stays at 22°C. The mountain folk will be enjoying a much crisper 18°C.

The work-week outlook: Tuesday - Thursday
If you're looking for a change of pace, you won't find it here. The midday cloud-and-storm routine repeats through Thursday, specifically targeting inland and mountain areas. Temps are staying steady and close to the seasonal average through Thursday.

Pro tip for Tuesday: The southeast is joining the storm club tomorrow, and there’s even a chance of hail during those thunderstorms. So, if you're in Famagusta or Ayia Napa, maybe don't leave the car windows down.
