Eighteen Cypriots, including 14 students and two teachers, have safely returned to Cyprus following a period of uncertainty caused by political unrest in Tanzania. The group arrived this morning in Larnaca, traveling via Dubai.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the students and their accompanying teachers were successfully evacuated from Kilwa, a region affected by the instability. Two additional escorts who were part of the original group are returning separately to Greece.
The evacuation involved a carefully coordinated process: the group first flew to Zanzibar, where they stayed overnight on a specially arranged flight, before continuing on to Cyprus.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of staying informed about potential risks while traveling, advising citizens to follow official travel guidelines and maintain contact with local diplomatic missions during emergencies.
This repatriation operation was carried out through close cooperation between Cyprus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the High Commission in Nairobi, the National Crisis Management Center, and the European Union Delegation in Dar es Salaam.
