A 30-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning in connection with a violent arson attack that took place last week in Paphos, injuring several members of a family. The suspect was taken into custody at the Ledra Palace crossing point in Nicosia while attempting to cross into the occupied areas.

The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on February 11, when the suspect allegedly set objects on the veranda of a house on fire. The blaze quickly spread inside the residence, causing significant damage. A family of six—parents, their two children, and the elderly parents of the mother—were in the house at the time.

The fire caused injuries to several family members. The mother, aged 40, suffered second-degree burns to her hands and first-degree burns to her face. The father, 42, and their 12-year-old child both experienced respiratory issues from the smoke. The grandparents, aged 73 and 72, were also injured—particularly the 73-year-old man, who sustained injuries to his spine and leg as he tried to escape the burning building.

The family was rushed to Paphos General Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no one sustained life-threatening injuries.

As the investigation unfolded, evidence pointed to the 30-year-old man, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. Police apprehended him as he attempted to cross from the free to the occupied areas, and he remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation.

The Paphos Police Station is leading the investigation into this disturbing case of arson and attempted harm.
