Authorities in Limassol are continuing their investigation into the devastating house fire that claimed the lives of a family of five last Saturday.
The Department of Electromechanical Services has completed its inspections of the home and is expected to issue a final report by the end of the week. Speaking to RIK's Trito, the department’s deputy director, Pavlos Gavris, said investigators have identified a possible cause of the fire, but no official conclusion has been reached yet. Their checks are focused on the electrical wiring and household appliances inside the home.
Meanwhile, police are waiting for reports from both the fire department and the Electromechanical Services before proceeding with a death inquest. According to Limassol CID chief Lefteris Kyriakou, the most likely cause of the fire was a fault in the electrical system. However, investigators are also looking into the possibility that a heater, purchased in early January from a Limassol store, may have played a role. Police plan to take statements from the store’s management as part of their inquiries.
