Three young children among victims in the fire

Newsroom / CNA

A devastating house fire in Limassol early Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of a family of five, including three young children.

Authorities reported that the fire broke out shortly after 4:00 AM on the second floor of a residential building. Firefighters and police rushed to the scene, and after bringing the flames under control, they found the bodies of two adults and three children inside the home.

The victims were identified as a 35-year-old father, a 33-year-old mother, and their children, aged 7, 3, and 2.

Relatives residing on other floors of the building noticed the fire and attempted to assist but were unable to reach the family in time.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

According to Fire Department spokesperson Andreas Kettis, emergency crews were dispatched at 4:08 AM, arriving with four fully staffed fire trucks, including an aerial ladder truck. The fire had engulfed the second-floor residence, which comprised both masonry and drywall construction.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and water hoses to control the blaze while conducting a search for anyone trapped inside. Tragically, they discovered the family deceased within the apartment.

Authorities, including fire investigators, police, and the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services, are working together to determine what sparked the fire.
