A four-year-old child has died after developing severe complications linked to Influenza A, health authorities confirmed on Monday. The child passed away at Makarios Hospital, where she had been receiving intensive medical care.
According to official information, the young patient was first admitted to Limassol General Hospital after her condition rapidly worsened. Due to the seriousness of her illness, doctors decided she needed specialist treatment and transferred her to Makarios Hospital.
She was admitted to the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, arriving intubated and in critical condition. Despite continuous efforts by medical staff, her condition did not improve.
The Organization’s press spokesperson, Charalambos Charilaou, stated that the child died earlier in the day. Treating physicians determined that the cause of death was multi-organ failure resulting from Influenza A infection.
The case highlights the potentially severe impact of seasonal influenza, particularly among young children and other vulnerable groups.
