A crisp and quiet Thursday with mostly clear skies and light winds

The calm before the weekend chill makes for a perfect winter walk.

Newsroom

After the blustery winds of earlier this week, the weather has decided to take a deep breath and relax. A weak high-pressure system is currently in charge, giving us a Thursday that is peaceful, if a little crisp.

Today is looking like the "good behavior" day of the week. We start off mostly clear and sunny, though clouds will start to gather locally after midday just to add some texture to the sky. The winds have tired themselves out and will be variable and light (3 Beaufort), leaving the sea calm to slightly rough. It’s the perfect day for a seaside stroll without getting sand blown in your eyes.

Temperature-wise, we are holding steady. Expect highs of 15°C inland and a pleasant 17°C on the coast. In the higher mountains, it’s a chilly 6°C, and watch your step if you're up early, as frost will be hanging around initially.

For those asking, the white stuff hasn't gone anywhere! Chionistra is still boasting a solid 30 centimeters of snow. With the clear skies today, the peaks should look stunning.

The Outlook:

Make the most of the sun today, because things are changing.

Friday (tomorrow), clouds take over by the afternoon, bringing isolated showers to the mountains. The weekend (Saturday & Sunday), it gets moody again. Expect partly cloudy skies with showers mainly in the west. On the highest peaks of Troodos, those showers will likely turn to snow or sleet. While temps stay stable tomorrow, Sunday is bringing a "noticeable drop," pushing us below the seasonal average. So, keep the heavy winter duvet handy!
