Good morning! The storm has officially left the building, and the skies have been scrubbed clean. After the blustery drama of yesterday, Wednesday is bringing us the "calm after the storm." But don't be fooled by the sunshine, it is still decidedly chilly out there. A weak high-pressure system is taking over, giving us a break from the rain but keeping the fridge door open.
Today will be a generally mostly clear and sunny day, the kind that looks beautiful through a window but bites if you step outside without a coat. The winds are shifting to a northwesterly/northerly direction, blowing light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort), though if you are on a windward coast, you might still feel some gusty reminders of the storm (4 to 5 Beaufort).
The big story is the temperature. Despite the sun, the mercury is shivering. We are only looking at highs of 13°C inland and 15°C on the coast. In the higher mountains, it’s a frigid 3°C.
Speaking of mountains: If you are a snow enthusiast, this is your moment. The snow depth at Chionistra has jumped significantly to 32 centimeters! With clear skies today, the views up there will be spectacular (just make sure your car is prepared for the cold).
Tonight, the clear skies continue, which means it will be a cold one. The winds will drop to a gentle breeze, so wrap up warm if you're heading out.
Thursday (tomorrow) keeps the good vibes going with more mostly clear skies. Friday sees a return of some clouds and potential isolated showers over the mountains, while Saturday brings back the "real" winter with cloudy skies, local showers, and potentially more light snowfall on the peaks.
Temperatures will try to claw their way back up until Friday, but expect another slight dip by the weekend.
