Caution drivers, rockfalls reported on mountain roads

Light snowfall and freezing temperatures create hazardous driving conditions in higher elevations.

Newsroom

As of around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the roads leading to Troodos, specifically the Platres–Troodos, Karvounas–Troodos, Prodromos–Troodos, and Pedoulas–Prodromos roads, are open only to vehicles with four-wheel drive or vehicles equipped with snow chains, as snowfall and frost have made the road surface slippery.

Rockfalls and landslides have been reported on the following roads:

  • Kalopanagiotis – Moutoullas – Pedoulas
  • Kakopetria – Karvounas
  • Pedoulas – Kykkos – Kambos
  • Kykkos – Tsakkistra
  • Kambos – Orkonta – Kato Pyrgos

At the same time, the Prodromos–Lemythou and Kakopetria–Pinewood–Pedoulas roads are open to all vehicles; however, they are slippery due to light snowfall and/or frost.

On the rest of the road network in urban areas, as well as on the motorways, no particular problems were reported.
