A frosty reality check: Yes, I was wrong—it was cold!

After downplaying the chill last week, I humbly admit defeat. The wind had other plans. Here’s what’s in store for today’s weather!

Newsroom

Good morning, folks! It’s Monday, and if you, like me, are struggling to leave the warmth of your bed, I don’t blame you. After all, stepping outside feels like walking into a freezer—though, to be fair, not quite the deep freeze of last night.

Now, before we get into today’s forecast, let’s address the elephant in the room—or rather, the cold wind that slapped us all in the face this weekend. Yes, yes, I admit it. On Friday, I may have downplayed the chill, even poking fun at the idea of people being a tad dramatic about the cold. Well, turns out, I was "slightly" off. I forgot to factor in the wind, which made everything feel significantly frostier. Lesson learned! The life of a weather forecaster is a humbling one—you win some, you lose some.

So, what’s in store for today? Expect a bit of a mixed bag. The morning brings some clouds, but as the day goes on, we’ll get clearer skies. Winds will be coming from the north to northeast, starting off a bit feisty at 4 to 5 Beaufort in some areas, but later settling to a more moderate 3 to 4. The sea will be a little rough—so if you were planning a swim (which, honestly, at 12 degrees on the coast, you’d have to be brave), maybe think twice. Temperatures? A crisp 10 degrees inland, 12 by the sea, and a bone-chilling zero in the higher mountains, where frost will stick around.

Tonight, it’s all about clear skies, light winds, and temperatures dropping once again—zero degrees inland, 2 on the coast, and a frigid -8 in the mountains. Frost will form in the usual spots, so if you’re heading anywhere high up, bundle up and drive carefully.

Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday bring more cloud cover, with some rain expected midweek—mainly in the west—along with mountain snowfall. By Thursday, we might see a few more scattered showers or snowflakes up high. The good news? Temperatures will start climbing, inching closer to what we’d expect for this time of year.

Now, for those planning a trip to Troodos, keep in mind that certain mountain roads are only open to 4x4s or vehicles with anti-skid chains. With frost making the roads extra slippery, caution is key. Elsewhere, the roads are fine, but as always, drive safely and follow the rules—because the only thing slipperier than an icy road is trying to argue your way out of a traffic ticket.

That’s your weather update for today! Stay warm, drive safe, and if you’re still in bed… I completely understand.
