Limassol is reeling from another fire-related tragedy, just days after a family of five lost their lives in their sleep due to a suspected faulty electrical appliance. This time, 33-year-old Menelaos Christodoulides was found dead after a fire broke out in his home in the Ayios Athanasios area on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities, including the Police, Fire Service, and the Department of Electromechanical Services, are actively investigating the cause of the fire. The Department of Electromechanical Services confirmed in a statement that it was called to assist with the probe and that investigations will continue today. Once a conclusion is reached, findings will be handed over to the Police.

Police also stated that the exact cause of Christodoulides' death will be determined during an autopsy scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today at the Nicosia General Hospital morgue. Forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxos will conduct the examination.
According to reports, the victim’s brother found him unconscious inside the home before the fire fully engulfed the bedroom. The room was already filled with smoke and fumes, suggesting that the fire may have started before flames became visible.
This latest tragedy follows last week’s devastating fire in which a family of five, including three young children, perished in their apartment while they slept. Authorities are still investigating that incident, with early indications pointing to a possible malfunctioning electrical adapter or appliance.
