Brace yourselves—except, actually, don’t. Because despite the dire warnings of a frost apocalypse, today’s weather is mildly inconvenient at best. Sure, there are some clouds, and if you venture into the mountains, you might spot a flurry or two. But a freeze snap? Please. Yours truly was in the Netherlands last week, and let’s just say, Cypriots wouldn't last five minutes there. It’s just not that cold, people!
Today, expect alleged snowfall in the mountains and possibly some rain in other areas. Winds will be just strong enough to ruin your hairstyle but not strong enough to make you feel like you're in an action movie. The sea will be a little choppy, but don’t panic—it’s not exactly the North Atlantic.
Tonight, temperatures will drop to a chilly but survivable 2 degrees inland, with the mountains hitting a dramatic -4. OK I'll give you that, it may turn out to be a freeze snap after all. Frost is expected in higher areas, meaning social media will be flooded with photos of car windshields covered in a barely visible layer of ice.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the cold will persist, but let's be honest—this is Cyprus, not Siberia. Yes, there may be a bit of snow in the mountains, but if you’re expecting a winter wonderland, prepare for disappointment. Meanwhile, temperatures will stay well below average, which means one thing: people will be dressed as if they’re trekking to the Arctic… to step outside for coffee.
As for the snow depth in Troodos? A whopping 3 centimeters—or, as the Netherlands would call it, a mild dusting.
Stay warm, Cyprus. Or at least, try to pretend it’s that cold.
