For drivers navigating Limassol’s local roads, improvements do not always have to come in the form of a new motorway. Sometimes, a better-connected street or a wider junction can make a difference to the daily journey.
The Transport Ministry announced two tenders Monday for road upgrades in Agia Fyla and near Pyrgos, with a combined estimated cost of €347,741 before VAT.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with each project expected to take three months.
A new connection in Agia Fyla
The first project will connect Idomeneos Street with 1st April Avenue and Sfaktirias Street.
Alongside earthworks and asphalt paving, the work includes sidewalks, a stormwater drain, a wall and fencing, and road markings. Its estimated cost is €184,150 before VAT.
For residents, the project brings together a new road connection, pedestrian infrastructure, and drainage improvements.
A wider junction toward Pyrgos
The second project will widen the junction where Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue in Parekklisia meets the road leading to Pyrgos.
Estimated at €163,591 before VAT, the work includes earthworks, asphalt paving, a wall, metal safety barriers, and road markings.
Both projects will be funded through national resources. Contractors have until Nov. 18, 2026, to submit bids.
The ministry said the tenders follow visits by the transport minister and Public Works Department officials, who examined local road problems and committed to advancing the improvements.
It said smaller projects have a role alongside major infrastructure in improving road safety, easing congestion, and reducing inconvenience for the public.
The announcement also referred to the Limassol–Saittas motorway and Evagoras Lanitis Avenue, with announcements on those projects expected in 2027.
For now, the next step for the two local upgrades is the tender process. A construction start is planned for early next year; an immediate change to the daily drive is still some months away.
