A video circulating online that appears to show President Nikos Christodoulides speaking with a journalist was generated using artificial intelligence and is not real, a government spokesman said.
Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis addressed the video in a post on X, saying the clip “does not correspond to any real conversation or event.”
“In the past few hours, yet another video has been circulating online, supposedly showing a conversation between the President of the Republic and a journalist,” Letymbiotis said. “The video is fake, AI-generated.”
Letymbiotis acknowledged the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence but warned that such advances require careful handling. He emphasized the importance of promoting critical thinking and responsible engagement with information online.
He said the government is monitoring the case, is in contact with relevant authorities, and will take all necessary action.
“The answer is clear: vigilance, accurate, and timely information,” he said.
