Aid to Gaza gets green light from US State Department

US State Department advocates support for Palestinians

Newsroom / CNA

The provision of aid and any country’s ability to do so to the Palestinian people in Gaza would be a good thing, the US State Department has said on Tuesday.

Asked if US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the possible creation of a maritime corridor during his meeting with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and if the idea is supported by the US, Vedant Patel, Principal Deputy Spokesperson said the U.S. "use a number of methods, including trucks and overland routes, as well as airplanes and helicopters".

He added "we certainly have broadly felt that the provision of aid and any country’s ability to do so to the Palestinian people in Gaza would be a good thing".

President Christodoulides has proposed that Cyprus is used as a humanitarian corridor for aid to Gaza. The proposal will be put to the table in Paris at the conference on civilians in Gaza, which will be held at the level of Heads of State, Government and Foreign Ministers.
