Children fascinated by ships, sailors and life at sea are in for a special Independence Day adventure this Thursday.
Two military vessels will open to the public at Larnaca port on Oct. 1, giving families a rare opportunity to step aboard and see what naval life looks like beyond the shoreline.
The offshore patrol vessel Ioannidis, operated by the Cyprus National Guard’s Naval Command, will be docked alongside the Greek Navy frigate Nikiforos Fokas as part of celebrations marking the 66th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’ independence.
Visitors will be able to get a close look at the two ships and learn more about their capabilities—an experience likely to be particularly exciting for children who have only ever seen military vessels from a distance.
The ships will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Security checks will be carried out at the entrance to Larnaca port, and all standard safety procedures for entry into Cyprus’ ports will apply.
For families looking for something different to do on the public holiday, it is a chance to swap the usual day out for a walk aboard two working naval vessels—and possibly inspire a few future sailors along the way.
