Cyprus President, Nicos Anastasiades, will have a meeting today at 12:45 with the President of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, with whom he is expected to discuss, among other things, the Cyprus issue.

According to a written statement by the Director of the President's Press Office, Andreas Iosif, during the meeting, the President of the Republic will express his deep appreciation for the principled stance of Slovakia on the Cyprus issue, as well as the country's commitment to respecting international law.

It is also noted that President Anastasiades will inform the President of Slovakia on the repercussions of the continued occupation of Cyprus as a result of the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island, as well as Turkey’s provocative actions in the fenced off area of Famagusta and Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone and territorial waters.

Cyprus and Slovakia maintain excellent relations, both bilaterally and multilaterally, the written statement says.

It is added that Slovakia participates in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, while encouraging and promoting dialogue between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties.
