Applications open for 2026 residential solar water heating grant

Homeowners can receive grants of up to €900, with funding available until 2,000 applications have been submitted.

Homeowners can now apply for government grants to install or replace solar water heating systems under the 2026 Residential Solar Water Heating Systems Grant Scheme, with funding available until 2,000 applications have been submitted across its two categories.

The scheme, announced on Monday by the Management Committee of the Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation Fund, provides financial support for the installation of complete solar water heating systems, including solar panels and hot water cylinders, provided the equipment meets the required technical standards.

Grants of €500 are available under the general category, rising to €900 for homes in mountainous and disadvantaged areas. Vulnerable households applying under a separate category are also eligible for grants of €900.

Applicants are required to obtain official pre-approval before any installation work begins. Under the scheme's rules, projects that start before pre-approval is granted will not qualify for funding.

Only installers included in the official Register of Participating Installers may carry out the work. In addition, all equipment must be selected from the approved list of eligible products, which has been assessed and assigned official codes in advance. The authorities said these requirements are intended to simplify the application process and reduce the likelihood of applications being rejected because non-approved equipment has been used.
