Armored vehicles withdrawn as calm returns to Pergamos buffer zone

British Bases police continue increased monitoring across the area.

A sense of calm has returned to the buffer zone in Pergamos on Thursday, following heightened tensions in the area a day earlier. Authorities in the occupied areas have removed the armored vehicles that had been deployed during the incident.

Despite the de-escalation, security remains tight. Members of the United Nations peacekeeping force continue to maintain a strong presence, carrying out patrols and restricting access to certain roads.

UN-controlled sections of the buffer zone are also seeing the presence of what is described as “police,” while additional monitoring is being conducted by officers from the British Bases police in areas under their jurisdiction.

On elevated ground where an antenna has been installed, activity has scaled back compared to the previous day. While troops had previously set up a tent and raised a Turkish flag, only the flag and the antenna remain in place as of today.
