A desperate search is underway for a kitten named Mika, who went missing at Larnaca Airport on Thursday, September 11, while traveling with her guardians to Athens.
According to the Environmental Movement’s Animal Action Group, Mika’s crate, a secure, inspected, IATA-approved carrier, was found empty just as the plane was ready for takeoff. Airport staff attempted to locate the kitten for about ten minutes but were unsuccessful, and her guardians were not allowed to join the search.
The incident has left Mika’s family and animal advocates heartbroken. Anthi Mouzouri, coordinator of the Animal Action Group, called the situation “unacceptable and extremely tragic” and urged anyone with information to come forward. She added, “We do not want to believe this is the tragic end of Mika. There must be an intensive effort to find her.”
Authorities and the Environmental Movement Party are asking the public to help. Mika’s guardians are even willing to return from Athens to aid in the search.
