Authorities were mobilized in the early hours of Easter Monday after the body of an unidentified man was discovered along the remote coastline of Akamas, prompting a large-scale investigation that remains ongoing.

The grim discovery was made at approximately 5:45 a.m. by a 48-year-old amateur fisherman, who alerted police after coming across human remains in an advanced state of decomposition. Officers from the Paphos Police Directorate, along with a Marine Police vessel, quickly arrived at the scene, securing and cordoning off the area while initial examinations and evidence collection were carried out.

Due to the condition of the body, authorities have so far been unable to determine the man’s identity or the circumstances surrounding his death. Investigators from the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID), working alongside the Polis Chrysochous Police Station, have taken charge of the case, examining all possible scenarios and exploring whether the deceased may be linked to any missing persons reports.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday at the morgue of Paphos General Hospital by forensic pathologist Nikolaos Charalambous did not yield a conclusive cause of death, as the state of decomposition prevented definitive findings. However, samples and other evidence have been collected in an effort to establish the man’s identity and clarify the circumstances of his death.

Police have not ruled out any possibilities, and investigations continue as authorities work to piece together the events leading to the man’s death.
