Paphos Police have arrested two men in connection with a botched burglary that resulted in serious injuries and a complex web of alleged crimes, including conspiracy to commit a felony, housebreaking, and providing false information to authorities.

The case unfolded on November 13, when a 57-year-old man, severely injured in his right leg, was dropped off at Paphos General Hospital by an unknown individual who immediately fled without explanation. The injured man underwent surgery and was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors were forced to amputate his leg due to the severity of the injury.

Following the incident, police identified the man who had dropped off the injured 57-year-old. The suspect, a 42-year-old Greek Cypriot, was summoned for questioning on November 14. When he failed to provide a credible explanation for the injury, police arrested him for giving false information. The next day, a court approved his detention for three days.

As police continued their investigation, a clearer picture of the events began to emerge. Earlier on November 13, a 63-year-old woman reported a break-in at her home. Burglars had attempted to steal her safe, which had been moved from her bedroom to the staircase but was left behind under unclear circumstances. Evidence suggests that during the attempted theft, the safe fell on the 57-year-old suspect’s leg, causing the injury that ultimately led to his amputation.

Further examinations of the crime scene and the 42-year-old’s vehicle provided evidence linking both men to the burglary. Items from the break-in, along with other scientific findings, confirmed their involvement.

Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, led by the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Police are piecing together the events that led to the failed heist, which left one suspect hospitalized and another under intense scrutiny.
