The Cyprus men’s national handball team was involved in a road accident in Estonia during the early hours of Saturday morning while traveling for an international fixture.

According to official information released by the Cyprus Handball Federation, the team bus was en route from Tallinn to Põlva for a scheduled match against Estonia when it was involved in an accident and overturned. Emergency services responded promptly at the scene.

Two members of the Cyprus delegation were taken to hospital immediately by ambulance and are currently receiving medical care. While no serious injuries were reported, the remaining players and staff remained at the accident site for approximately two hours before being transported to their hotel by a replacement bus. As a precautionary measure, eight additional members of the delegation were later taken to hospital for medical checks.

The federation confirmed that all members of the national team are in stable condition and emphasized that there is no reason for concern.

Despite the incident, Cyprus is due to face Estonia in a scheduled match, though discussions are ongoing regarding whether the game will go ahead as planned. A final decision is expected following consultations between the relevant authorities.

The Cyprus Handball Federation stated that it is taking all necessary steps, both locally and internationally, to ensure the safety of the players and staff and to arrange their return to Cyprus as smoothly as possible. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
