Bibi, a male cat blind in one eye, vanished during an international flight from Larnaca Airport with a stopover in Athens, sparking outrage among animal lovers and raising serious questions about how pets are handled in transit.
The feline was part of a two-cat shipment, but only one cat arrived at the final destination. Despite being housed in an IATA-approved, fully insured crate and undergoing multiple safety checks, Bibi somehow disappeared.
“This cannot keep happening,” said Anthi Mouzouri, coordinator of the Environmental Movement. “Bibi is alone, scared, and in an unfamiliar environment. Every moment counts — his life is at risk.”
The case echoes a similar mishap in September 2025, when another cat, Mika, went missing at Larnaca Airport for nine tense days before being found. Advocates say incidents like these reveal a shocking gap in accountability for animals entrusted to professional services.
Authorities are investigating both Larnaca and Athens airports as potential points of loss, while volunteers are scrambling to locate the missing cat. Animal rights groups are demanding a full inquiry, warning that repeated failures like this endanger the lives of defenseless pets and show a “complete disregard” for their safety.
