Clear skies give way to clouds and rain

Weekend weather shifts gear with afternoon showers but temperatures still mid to upper 30’s

Newsroom

There is a chance of isolated afternoon showers Friday and during the weekend, with mostly clear skies in the early part of the day being taken over by cloud formations in the late afternoon.

A low pressure system affecting the area over Cyprus will produce light winds blowing from the southwest and northwest in the early parts of the day, turning into moderate winds and later developing into strong winds on the northern coast.

The sea will be relatively calm throughout the day while there will be turbulent waters at times during windfall.

Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 37° Celsius inland, 35 in the north, around 32 in the rest of the coastal regions and 27 on the mountains.

Evening skies will be mostly clear with low clouds and possibly mist in the early morning, with fog also expected for a short period of time just at dawn.

Minimum temperatures will register 23° in land and along the coast, while it will be 17 degrees up on the mountains.

No noticeable change in temperature is expected from day to day over the weekend, but slight increases will register overall with Monday reaching normal average temperatures for July.

In addition to isolated showers in the afternoon over the weekend, weather officials also warn of a chance of isolated thunderstorms over the mountains on Saturday.
