Cyprus is holding onto its springtime personality for a little longer, with breezy weather and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms once again making an appearance across the island.
A weak low-pressure system and an unstable air mass continue to influence the region today, bringing a lively mix of sunshine and clouds.
The morning is expected to stay fairly calm, but as temperatures rise through the day, clouds will begin building over the mountains and southeastern parts of the island. By midday and later in the afternoon, isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop, with some storms possibly carrying small bursts of hail.
Winds will sweep across the island from the southwest to northwest at moderate to strong levels, keeping the air feeling fresh and the sea slightly rough to rough in places.
Temperatures will climb to around 28°C inland, near 26°C along the southern and eastern coasts, around 23°C on western and northern shores, and a cooler 18°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, skies will gradually clear, although patches of low cloud are expected in western areas and parts of the interior. Winds will ease into a gentler evening breeze, while the sea slowly calms.
Friday and Saturday will continue the island’s run of changeable weather, with periods of cloud, local showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly developing after midday over mountain regions, inland areas and the east. Sunday may still bring a few isolated showers and the slight chance of another thunderstorm before conditions begin to settle again.
Temperatures on Friday will remain similar to today’s values, before dipping slightly inland and in the mountains on Saturday, keeping much of Cyprus cooler than what is normally expected for this time of year.
