A weak low-pressure system continues to hover over the region, while a more unstable air mass slowly approaches the island, preparing Cyprus for a blustery and unpredictable midweek performance.
The morning begins with a mix of sunshine and passing cloud, but don’t be fooled by any calm-looking skies. As the day warms up, clouds are expected to grow taller and darker, especially over the mountains and across the eastern half of the island. Local showers will pop up throughout the day, while isolated thunderstorms are likely to make a louder entrance around midday and later in the afternoon. Some storms may even toss down small bursts of hail before hurrying away again.
Winds will also be in a particularly energetic mood today, sweeping across the island from the southwest to northwest. By midday, conditions will become very gusty in many areas, while southern coastal regions could briefly flirt with near-gale winds. Hairbrushes, café umbrellas and loose paperwork have been put on notice.
The sea will mirror the sky’s restless mood, turning slightly rough to rough, especially along exposed coastlines.
Temperatures will stay noticeably cooler than recent days, reaching around 26°C inland, about 24°C along the southern and eastern coasts, near 21°C in western and northern areas, and a crisp 16°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight, clouds will continue drifting across the island, with isolated showers still possible, mainly in western areas. Winds will slowly begin to settle overnight, although seas remain unsettled.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday will continue the island’s run of springtime mood swings, bringing intervals of cloud, scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms, mostly after midday and especially over mountain regions and eastern parts of Cyprus. Hail may once again join the mix during stronger storms.
Temperatures will rise slightly tomorrow before dipping again by Saturday, staying below the usual values for late May, a cool little reminder that summer hasn’t fully unpacked its suitcase just yet.
