Rhestoration efforts are set to begin at the Church of Panagia Melandrina in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus, with maintenance work now entering the tender phase.

Sotos Ktoris, co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, told the Cyprus News Agency on Tuesday that bids have opened for conservation work at the medieval church, which lies between the villages of Kalograia and Agios Ambrosios. The structure is believed to date to the 14th or 15th century.

The church previously underwent emergency stabilization work in 2014 to stop further deterioration and reduce the risk of collapse.

Funding for the project is being provided jointly by the European Union, while the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will oversee implementation.

Information published by the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage states that the Monastery of Panagia Melandrina in Kalograia remained active until 1940. The exact date of its founding is unknown, and the church is the only surviving part of the original monastic complex.
