Covid infections on the rise but downward trend in hospitalizations reported

Over 99% of cases acquired through local transmission within the community

COVID-19 infections are on the rise, according to the National Surveillance Report released on Friday, however, hospitalizations are showing a downward trend.

As of March 14th, a total of 355,493 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed in Cyprus, of which 904 of these cases resulted in the death of the individual.

In the last 14 days (since March 1st, 2021), 33,488 cases were diagnosed. The median age was 31 years, 54.6% were females and 45.4% were males.

Most of the cases, 99.6%, originated from local transmission within the community.  Only 2.4% or 797 of the 33,488 covid cases originated from abroad.

In the last 14 days, most of the positive covid cases were reported in Limassol (9,680), followed by Nicosia (8,535), Larnaca (3,936), Paphos (3,489), Ammochostos 1,209 (4.5%) 

As of March 16th, 2022, 100 people with COVID-19 were hospitalized. The median age of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is 73 years.
