The increasing number of COVID-19 cases and the rise in the positivity rate will be the subject of discussion on Monday during a meeting of the Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipantela with members of the Scientific Advisory Committee.
A source told CNA that the situation is not particularly alarming since the picture in public hospitals has improved and is manageable.
However, in a statement last Saturday the head of the Scientific Advisory Committee for COVID-19, Constantinos Tsioutis, warned that the relaxation of the measures against the spread of COVID-19 will cause an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. He noted that the Omicron variant is highly contagious and it had already spread throughout the community, noting that although the ratio between deaths and cases is low, the number of deaths recorded each day is a large amount.
Sources say that no further relaxation of measures, or additional restrictive measures, will be proposed at today's meeting until further information is garnered from the current outbreak.
Discussions about a possible 4th dose will also be discussed today, but only for the elderly and immunocompromised.
