Temperatures are set to soar this week, with Wednesday and Thursday expected to bring the highest heat of the current heatwave. Inland areas could reach highs of 45°C, mountain regions around 37°C, and coastal zones between 37°C and 39°C.
Meteorological Officer Andreas Chrysanthou said Tuesday’s highs near 43°C inland prompted an orange warning, while a red alert is anticipated for Wednesday and likely to be extended through Thursday.
On August 15, the Feast of the Dormition, temperatures are forecast to ease slightly to between 40°C and 42°C, triggering a yellow warning. By Saturday, temperatures should return to seasonal norms, with inland highs dropping to 37°C–38°C.
Chrysanthou also cautioned that winds on Friday could elevate wildfire risks due to the lingering heat.
From Saturday onward, temperatures are expected to stabilize at or just below seasonal averages, with a chance of isolated mountain showers by Sunday or Monday.
