Three people arrested in connection with disturbances at an apartment complex in Oroklini, in the Larnaca District, will be repatriated immediately, authorities said Monday.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order and the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection said Cyprus will continue to take strict measures in cases where asylum seekers or individuals with international protection status commit criminal offenses.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, which occurred Saturday, April 5. Authorities said the three detainees had already received rejections on their asylum applications.
Two more individuals, also with rejected asylum claims, are being sought in connection with the case. Authorities said that if arrested, their deportation will be fast-tracked.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing strict action against foreign nationals involved in criminal activity, regardless of their protection status.
Officials also said they plan to hold meetings with municipal and community leaders to discuss practical steps to address delinquent behavior among foreign residents.
Authorities noted that recent cooperation among the Justice Ministry, the Migration Ministry, police and other agencies resulted in the arrest and repatriation of more than 120 foreign nationals from the old town area of Nicosia.
