Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades took to Twitter to express condolences for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, whose son now known as King Charles III became her successor.
"We offer our most sincere condolences for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. At these difficult times our thoughts are with the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom," wrote Anastasiades, the president of a former British colony.
Queen Elizabeth, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, died peacefully at her home in Scotland on Thursday at the age of 96.
She is succeeded by her son Charles, the oldest person to ever assume the British throne. King Charles III on Thursday became automatically the new monarch following the death of his mother, but no date yet has been set for his coronation.

The new King, whjo is expected to address the British nation toda, said "the death of my beloved mother Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family."
"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," King Charles added.
Elizabeth, the British nation's figurehead and a towering presence on the world stage for seven decades, had visited Cyprus twice.
