Sixty-five students and six teachers from the English School in Nicosia are on their way back to Cyprus after being stranded in Switzerland due to a landslide.

The group was on a school trip when severe weather hit, causing a landslide on Saturday evening at the southern border with Italy. The landslide and heavy rains disrupted electricity supply and traffic in the area, forcing the group to stay in a hotel in Switzerland.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Theodoros Gotsis told the Cyprus News Agency that road traffic was restored last night, allowing the group to begin their bus journey to Milan. The school trip had initially started in Milan a few days ago, and arrangements are now being made for their flights home.

The Embassy of Cyprus in Rome, accredited in Switzerland, has been handling the situation from the start to ensure the group's safe return.
