Cyprus and Greece strengthen ties on immigration

Ministers discuss support for Eastern Mediterranean and cross-border cooperation initiatives

Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou met with the Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy Christos Stylianides on Wednesday to address immigration issues and the INTERREG Greece-Cyprus cooperation program.

Ioannou briefed Stylianides on the recent Ministerial Meeting on immigration held in Nicosia. Both ministers emphasized the need to support Eastern Mediterranean countries, particularly Lebanon, to enhance their immigrant reception and accommodation systems and to improve border surveillance.

The meeting also covered the INTERREG Greece-Cyprus Cross-Border Cooperation Program. The successful implementation of this program has laid the groundwork for collaboration between the two countries in managing migration flows.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to high-level cooperation and agreed to explore additional synergies to improve operational readiness and response to migration challenges.

This meeting highlights the ongoing efforts and strong partnership between Cyprus and Greece in tackling immigration and enhancing cross-border cooperation.
