The Government is waiting for the completion of the works by the US for the construction of a pier at the port in Gaza so that the delivery of aid to Gaza in the framework of the “Amalthea” maritime humanitarian corridor can resume, Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, said on Tuesday, noting that works were at “a very advanced stage”.
The President was replying to journalists’ questions on his way to the annual general meeting of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB).
Asked if the Amalthea plan would resume, President Christodoulides said “we are waiting for the completion of the works on the part of the US, so that the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza can resume, which, according to the latest developments, it is something that must be done immediately”.
Asked when, the President replied “we are waiting”, noting that works were at “a very advanced stage”.
As soon as the Government is informed that works have been completed, he added, “we will proceed in cooperation with our partners, the EU, the US of course, the UAE for the delivery of humanitarian aid”.
