If you've noticed shiny new police vehicles on Cyprus' roads in the coming months, there's a good reason.
The Cyprus Police is adding 80 new Hyundai Tucson 4x4 hybrid SUVs to its fleet as part of an effort to modernize frontline policing and improve its ability to respond to incidents across the island.
The vehicles were recently delivered by CTC Automotive Ltd, a member of the Cyprus Trading Corporation (CTC), after the company successfully secured the contract through a public tender.
The new SUVs combine hybrid technology, four-wheel drive, and a range of modern safety and driver-assistance features, giving officers greater flexibility whether they're responding to emergencies in busy urban areas, patrolling mountain roads, or operating in challenging weather conditions.
Charalambos Papacharalambous, Hyundai's Director in Cyprus, said the company is proud to have supplied the vehicles and expressed confidence in the Tucson's performance and reliability.
"We are confident that our vehicles will contribute substantially to the mission of the Cyprus Police," he said.
For the public, the upgrade is about more than just newer patrol cars. A modern police fleet can help officers respond more quickly, travel more safely, and remain operational in a wider range of situations, from routine patrols and traffic incidents to search-and-rescue operations and emergencies in remote areas.
The delivery marks another step in the police's ongoing efforts to modernize its equipment and improve operational readiness through cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Whether responding to a traffic collision, assisting during extreme weather or answering an emergency call, the new hybrid SUVs are expected to become a familiar sight on roads across Cyprus.
