Rainfall levels across Cyprus this March have surged well above typical levels, with preliminary figures showing totals reaching 176% of the monthly average by the morning of March 26, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Data collected from the beginning of the month up to 8:00 a.m. on March 26 indicate that the island has already recorded 108.8 millimeters of rain, significantly higher than the usual 61.9 millimeters expected for the entire month.
The heaviest rainfall has been concentrated in mountainous and inland areas. Among the locations receiving the most precipitation are Stavros tis Psokas, Platania, and Pano Panagia, all of which recorded totals far exceeding normal March levels.
In detail, Stavros tis Psokas registered the highest accumulation at 236 millimeters, more than double its typical monthly average. Platania followed with 193 millimeters, while Pano Panagia recorded 192.6 millimeters. Other notable totals include 175.1 millimeters in Saittas and 166.7 millimeters in Prodromos, all well above seasonal norms.
Recent rainfall has also been intense. Over the past 24 hours, Kellaki recorded 36 millimeters, with Saittas and Pano Panagia receiving 28.9 millimeters and 27.5 millimeters, respectively.
These figures show that March has been exceptionally wet, with rainfall totals already nearing twice the expected monthly average before the month has ended.
