Drivers have raised concerns about the lack of adequate warning at traffic lights, suggesting the introduction of countdown timers or clearer signal transitions, as seen in other European countries. Many violations reportedly occur when drivers unintentionally cross stop lines, sometimes leading to abrupt braking and minor injuries.
The situation is particularly serious in Limassol, where dozens of drivers are already facing job losses, and many more could be affected. The problem is most evident on busy routes with frequent daily schedules.
Transport officials clarified that traffic light operations fall under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department, not the Ministry of Transport.
