If the post-holiday return to the desk feels a bit heavy, you can at least count on the weather to match your lack of focus. We are currently navigating a low-pressure system that doesn't quite know when to quit. The morning starts with a shy attempt at sunshine, but by the afternoon, the mountains and the southern half of the island are scheduled for a round of local showers and the occasional brief thunderstorm. It’s the kind of day where the sky can’t decide if it wants to be your friend or your dramatic ex.
Temperatures are playing it fair, hitting a respectable 18°C inland and up north, while the rest of the coast gets a slightly warmer 20°C, perfect for a brisk walk before the clouds lose their patience. Up in the higher mountains, it’s a crisp 9°C, and with 23 cm of snow still sitting on Chionistra, winter is still very much clinging to the peaks. The wind will start off with a gentle northerly breeze before shifting to a punchier southwest flow at 5 Beaufort along the coasts later today.
Tonight, the cloud cover migrates toward the west, and the sea will start to mirror the sky’s restless energy, becoming rough along the western shoreline.
Looking toward the weekend, the atmosphere is preparing a new itinerary:
Friday: A relatively quiet affair with some light, isolated showers primarily restricted to the mountains and the northwest.
Saturday: The sky will start to feel a bit crowded with medium and high-level clouds as the temperature takes a slight upward nudge.
Sunday: This is when things get complicated. Expect the return of suspended dust to turn the sky that familiar shade of beige, followed by rain and isolated thunderstorms to wash it all onto your patio.
The Reality Check: We are staying close to our seasonal averages for now, but Sunday’s rain will bring a slight chill to remind us that March still has a few cards left to play.
