The Cyprus government will now reward young talent in the fine arts with scholarships of €10,000 each, Education, Sports, and Youth Minister Dr. Athena Michaelidou announced Wednesday.

The initiative targets children under 18 who demonstrate exceptional aptitude and progress in artistic fields, the minister said following a Council of Ministers meeting at the Presidential Palace.

“This issue has been discussed for many years,” Dr. Michaelidou said. “The time has come to recognize, with a meaningful award, children who truly stand out in the arts. We have such children who make not only themselves and their families proud but also our country.”

A special committee, composed of officials from the Ministry of Education and the Deputy Ministry of Culture, will evaluate applicants and decide on the scholarships, which are intended to encourage and nurture Cyprus’ next generation of artists.
