Greece’s National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA) is spreading its wings beyond its home country, announcing plans to open campuses in Cyprus this October.
The move was revealed at a press conference on Monday, with the new Cypriot branch set to operate in both Nicosia and Larnaca. In its initial phase, the campus will offer four schools and eight departments, including Medicine, Nursing, Economics, Business Administration, Port and Shipping Management, Primary Education, Psychology, and an English-language program in Ancient Greek Archaeology, History, and Literature.
University officials said the administrative offices, including the rectorate and management council, will be housed in the historic Eleneio building. Meanwhile, the schools’ administrative departments will be located in a historic building in the Faneromeni area, provided by the Archbishopric of Cyprus.
Tuition fees will vary depending on the program. Business, economics, and primary education programs will start at €6,000 per year, nursing just under €10,000, and medicine just under €20,000. A number of scholarships will also be offered. Students currently enrolled in EKPA in Athens who transfer to the Cyprus campus will be automatically registered and receive at least a 30% tuition discount.
University officials said the expansion aims to provide high-quality Greek higher education closer to students in Cyprus while leveraging the country’s strategic location in the Eastern Mediterranean.
