Cyprus to become 'transfer hub' for people fleeing Sudan

The Cyprus government has activated its ESTIA National emergency plan to help with repatriations of foreign citizens from Sudan

The Republic of Cyprus activated its ESTIA Special National Plan to receive and repatriate foreign citizens from crisis areas through its territory, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

The release stated that Cyprus intends to offer facilities to friendly countries for the repatriation of their citizens from Sudan through Cyprus.

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos convened the Ministerial Group for Crisis Management on Tuesday. The group, which includes the ministers of foreign affairs, defense, interior and justice and public order, decided to activate the ESTIA plan.

The press release added that Cyprus intends to offer facilities to friendly countries for the repatriation of their citizens from Sudan through Cyprus.
