Cyprus enjoyed a successful outing at the 2026 Balkan Athletics Championships in Volos, Greece, returning home with one silver and three bronze medals from the regional competition.

Olympian Milan Trajković led the Cypriot team with a silver medal in the men's 110m hurdles. The experienced hurdler clocked 13.70 seconds to finish second and secure the fifth Balkan Championships medal of his career. The result adds to an impressive collection that includes three gold medals and one bronze.

Cyprus also celebrated three bronze-medal performances in the field events. Filippa Fotopoulou finished third in the women's long jump with a best effort of 6.54 metres, earning the seventh Balkan Championships medal of her career. Iosif Kesidis claimed bronze in the hammer throw with a mark of 76.55 metres, while Styliana Ioannidou secured third place in the women's high jump after clearing 1.84 metres.

The performances contributed to another strong showing for Cypriot athletics at the annual championships, which brought together leading competitors from across the Balkans at Volos' Panthessaliko Stadium.

In a statement following the event, the Cyprus Olympic Committee congratulated the Cyprus Amateur Athletic Association (KOEAS), the athletes and their coaches for their achievements. The committee noted that athletics continues to be one of Cyprus' most successful sports internationally, regularly producing podium finishes at major regional competitions.

According to the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the four medals won in Volos increased Cyprus' overall tally at the Balkan Athletics Championships to 55 medals, comprising 14 gold, 17 silver and 24 bronze medals.

The latest success provides further encouragement for Cypriot athletics as the country's leading competitors continue their preparations for the remainder of the international season.
