The Government has decided to place security guards in all high schools across the country, Education Minister Athena Michaelidou announced today.

After a Cabinet meeting, Michaelidou explained that the program, which was already in place at 35 high schools and 11 technical schools, had received positive feedback. Now, the plan will expand to 62 more high schools.

“We're working with private security companies to ensure proper monitoring of school grounds. This is part of our 'Safe School' program, which has been running for the past year and a half,” she said.

The government also approved additional funding for school building improvements, prioritizing areas with the greatest need. This includes upgrades in communities like Appecia, Trulli, and Mazotos, a new kindergarten in Ipsona, and repairs to a primary school roof in the same area.

The goal of these efforts is to enhance safety and improve facilities for students and staff across Cyprus.
