Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced today that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has been declared ''persona non grata'' in Israel, accusing him of not condemning the massive missile attack launched by Iran against Israel last Tuesday.
"Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's heinous attack on Israel does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil," Katz stated in a sharp rebuke. He also accused Guterres of being "anti-Israel" and supporting terrorist organizations, referring specifically to Hamas, Hezbollah, and other groups Israel considers threats to its security.
This move comes after Guterres called for a ceasefire amidst escalating violence in the Middle East but did not directly denounce the Iranian attack. Katz's declaration effectively bans Guterres from entering Israel.
The Foreign Minister further criticized the UN leader for not condemning Hamas' actions in the October 7 attacks, accusing him of failing to stand against atrocities committed by the group.
Israel has vowed to continue defending itself and its citizens, regardless of international criticism, Katz emphasized.
