Eight new deaths from COVID in the past week

Eight deaths and 1,814 new COVID-19 cases were recorded between May 27 and June 3, Cyprus’ Health Ministry said on Friday.

According to the Ministry, 65,706 tests were carried out in the past week while the positivity rate reached 2.60%.

The deaths concern five men, aged 62, 88, 75, 90 and 92, and three women aged 50, 62 and 77. This brings the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 1,067, while 491,777 cases have been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

Thirty – five patients with COVID-19 are being treated in hospital, of whom six post-COVID patients are in serious condition and are intubated. One patient is in a high dependency unit.

During the past week, 4,321 PCR tests and 61,385 rapid tests were carried out.

Another 95 cases emerged as part of the Health Ministry’s testing programs, while 73 cases were detected at the testing sites.

Two cases were detected in the National Guard, 17 in nursing homes, and three cases in closed structures.
